Nelson is situated at the top of New Zealand's South Island and boasts the most sunshine hours of any major town in New Zealand. We're sure this helps explain its fine wines.

It is on the doorstep of three of New Zealand's national parks; Kahurangi, Nelson Lakes and the Abel Tasman and is nestled by the Richmond Ranges.

All of these areas provide wonderful day walks or strenuous multi-day tramps (hikes to some), including Mt Owen - Lord of the Rings territory.

Hire a sailing boat from Nelson Harbour or go swimming at Tahunanui Beach, a gentle, uncrowded beach only five to ten minutes drive away.

Wander along the Abel Tasman Coastal Track enjoying its bays surrounded by native New Zealand bush. Learn to kayak or take a water taxi or charter boat to explore the coastline. The area has many sea birds, including penguins. The New Zealand fur seal is also now commonly seen.

Abel Tasman is a comfortable 1hour drive away as is Nelson Lakes National Park. Be hiking in Kahurangi National Park in 45 minutes or be in Golden Bay in 1.5 - 2 hours.
